Action taken against adulterated milk

LAHORE  - The field teams of the Punjab Food Authority have been regularly checking quality of milk at entry points and at milk shops, says a press release on Thursday.
For this purpose, the field teams are equipped with on-spot testing kits. The kits are used for various kinds of adulterants in milk such as Urea, Starch, Sucrose, Formalin, Hydrogen peroxide, Boric Acid, Carbonates and etc. Adulteration of milk through addition of water is also detected by on-spot testing with the help of “Lactometer”, it added.
During the last one year, 801 vehicles have been checked, out of which 328 samples are founded adulterated at various entry points in Lahore.17, 664 litter milk has been discarded which was found adulterated along with the launching of prosecution against 328 milk adulterators.
On the other hand, continuous inspection of milk shops is also carried out for the provision of safe and nutritious milk to the people. Up till now, 1973 milk shops are targeted for inspection, out of which 801 samples are found adulterated, 24436 litter milk has been discarded along with sealing of 405 milk shops and Rs. 269,500 as fine has been imposed on the violators. Prosecution is also launched against the 801 milk shop owner found engaged in the business adulterated milk.
Today PFA’s field teams have taken 62 samples of milk from different milk shops of Lahore city and one premises (Umer Milk Shop)  is also sealed due to conformation of adulteration during on spot testing. These actions are taken on daily basis and those selling substandard or adulterated milk are brought to book.
