ISLAMABAD - Zaheer Abbas, while talking to this scribe exclusively, said that Pakistani players had great potential and they would gradually improve their batting and start producing performances on consistent basis.

“As Asia Cup is round the corner, I don’t want to divert their attention, or completely overhaul things. There is a lot of work needed to be done and that will be steadily achieved. I don’t have any magic lamp to use it to remove all the flaws of the national players in few minutes or hours but it will take time,” he added. “I will not only give players lectures, but also demonstrate the batting skills to help them in learning how to use their feet, which shot they should play and which delivery they have to leave. I will also invite them for classes and use blackboard and draw complete map to guide them on which areas they must focus,” Zaheer asserted. He further said that he had already offered his services to the PCB and players in the past and all were welcome to take advantage from his experience.

“PCB chairman Najam Sethi has given me a responsibility of helping the batsmen and I will do whatever I can to help the country and players. I will travel with the team as chief consultant and we will leave for Dhaka late Friday night. Bangladeshi pitches are almost identical to that we play in Pakistan,” he added.

“Reaching three days earlier will definitely help a great deal to our players in adjusting to the conditions of Dhaka. The players have trained hard during the camp at the NCA and it will help them in the upcoming event,” he stated. “We will return for four to five days before Twenty20 World Cup and then we will depart again for the prestigious event, as Pakistan team need to lift the title for the people of the country, who love cricket and give so much respect to the players,” he concluded.
