KARACHI - Karachi Commissioner Ijaz Ahmed Khan on Tuesday vowed that 0.21 million plants to be planted in the metropolis during plantation drive.
This he stated while chairing a review meeting regarding plantation drive in city. The meeting was attended by representatives of KMC, DMCs, Cantonment Boards, NGOs, Civil Society, Forest Department and others.
The all above department informed the meeting about their initiatives for plantation in city. The meeting decided that will provide plants to the concern institutions. Forest department, local government departments and NGOs will be planted 0.2 million plants in city while commissioner house to plant 10 thousand plants in different parts of the city.
On the occasion, Commissioner Karachi directs the deputy commissioners to cooperate with all concern departments those participate in the plantation drive and also provide guidance to them. Ijaz Ahmed Khan said that all local government departments and NGOs to participate in plantation and play their role to provide green environment to the citizens. The meeting also decided that forest department to conduct a survey during the drive to maintain the record and progress of plantation campaign. It further decided that environment friendly plants to be planted in the drive.
“Plantation of Conocarpus and harmful plants will not allowed in the campaign”, meeting decided. The meeting suggested that environment friendly plants including Neem, Moringa, Drumstick, Gulmohar, Amaltas, Sukhchayn and several others to be considered in the drive for plantation.
The meeting also reviewed complains regarding tree cutting in city and Commissioner Karachi directed the concern local government departments to strategy to address the complaint while he requested the citizens and NGOs to register their submit written complaints at concern assistant commissioner office against the people and departments those involved in tree cutting.
