12-year-old boy arrested for killing sister

A 12-year-old boy on Tuesday was arrested by police in connection with the murder of his 13-year-old sister in Kahna, one day earlier.  Police identified the suspect as 12-year-old Saif Ullah, the younger brother of Zahida. The girl succumbed to bullet wounds at a hospital later Monday.  Earlier, her family told the police that Zahida shot herself accidentally at home. “She was rushed to a hospital by her brother where she succumbed to bullet injuries,” according to her mother. The police shifted her body to the morgue for autopsy and interrogated some family members in connection with the incident.  A police officer said that during initial interrogation it was established that the young girl was deliberately killed by her brother. The boy exchanged harsh words with the girl over the use of mobile phone. In the meantime, he got infuriated and shot dead Zahida. The suspect fled from the hospital as they police reached there to investigate the shooting.  The Kahna police on Tuesday registered a murder case against the suspect on the complaint of a police officer. The suspect was shifted to a police facility for further interrogation. –Staff Reporter

Two men ‘end life’

Two people reported to have committed suicide in the provincial metropolis, police said on Tuesday.  A 23-year-old man was found hanged at a house in the Najaf Colony in Iqbal Town police precincts. The deceased was named by police as Shehbaz Ali, 23. His family told the police that Shehbaz ended his life by hanging himself with the ceiling fan. The police were investigating the death.  In another incident, a 45-year-old private security guard died by gunfire in Satu Katla police limits. Police investigators said the deceased, identified as Naseer Ahmad, a resident of Kasur district, was working as a guard at shoe-store near Wapda Town.  The station house officer told reporters that it was an apparent suicide but police were investigating the incident. The bodies were shifted to morgue for autopsy. –Staff Reporter

Passenger held at airport

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Immigration arrested a passenger at Allama Iqbal International Airport, here on Tuesday. According to a spokesman, the FIA Immigration intercepted a passenger, Abdul Razzaq, a resident of Sahiwal, who had arrived at the airport by flight No PK-726 from Riyadh.  He presented his passport No ST189250 for clearance, which was found fake on checking. The passenger was detained for further legal action. –APP

 World Day of Social Justice observed

Pakistan Global Initiative for Law and Justice (PGILJ) observed “World Day of Social Justice” at the Lahore High Court Bar Association here on Tuesday. Holding a conference titled “Citizens Democratic Rights & State Responsibilities,” in collaboration with Pak-US Alumni Netowrk and Lahore High Court Bar Association, PGILJ emphasized over provisions of fundamental rights in the country.  The organization’s Chief Executive Officer Mukhdoom Waseem Qureshi said: “ Being responsible citizen of the society lets promise on this day to promote and protect democratic rights of all human being of country for eradication of injustice, corruption, unemployment & poverty by creating future voices,”.  He said that everyone needed to play his role to make Pakistan a prosper state.   A large number of male and female civil society activists, students, lawyers, minority’s leaders and others took part in the conference.  Former Prosecutor General NAB Waqas Qadeer Dar said “under Article 1 of universal declaration of human rights,  all human being are born free and equal in human rights, they are endowed with the reasons and consciences and should act together in a spirit of brotherhood,” .  –Staff Reporter

 “From education and awareness prospective world day of social justice provides greater opportunity to government, non-government organizations and all stakes holders of the society to focus on the bearer to the social well being that millions of people face because of gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, cultural and disability,” said the former prosecutor .  Lahore church’s Dean shahid miraj said that promotion of peace through dialogue and exchange of idea was the need of time, because tolerant society was the only factor of change anywhere in the world and in Pakistan government should promote its through federation by launching provincial harmony campaign.
