LAHORE - The Hameed Nizami Press Institute of Pakistan organised a seminar titled ‘Responsibilities of Opposition in Parliamentary Democratic System’ at HNPIP Auditorium Tuesday.
HNPIP Director Absar Abdul Ali was moderator while the speakers include ex-CM Manzoor Ahmad Watto, PTI leader Andleeb Abbas, Dr Ijaz Butt and Dr Arifa. Former Punjab Chief Minister Mian Manzoor Ahmad Watto said that the rulers’ stance on courts must be reconsidered.
Watto said that in Punjab, the PMLN was ruling but playing the role of opposition.
“Former PM Nawaz Sharif and his daughter were speaking against the judiciary. With the entry of the business class into power corridors money laundering and other such corrupt practices started,” he said and claimed that he brought educational reforms in his term.
Andleeb Abbas said that opposition always criticised wrong policies of government.
She said that both the press and judiciary should play their parts for national progress.
Dr Ejaz Butt said that a good number of the members of the assembly were uninterested in the business and they just join the session for other gains. Arifa said that the ruling party should do legislation on sexual harassment to avert incidents like Zainab case. She said that not only good rulers but also good opposition was must for a good democracy.
