Trader ­thrashed during shop robbery

KAMALIA-Six dacoits entered and ransacked a grocery store, beat the store owner and made off with Rs200,000 at Delhi Chowk here the other day. The dacoits were later identified as Shafique, Saeed, Naveed, Waseem, Ashfaq and one more yet to be identified. All of them belonged to Toba Tek Singh district.
The accused thrashed storeowner Abdul Khaliq at gunpoint, ransacked the grocery store, looted Rs0.2 million cash from the shop and fled away as the shopkeepers from adjoining shops had gathered.
The Kamalia Traders Union announced a shutdown strike against the incident and protested against the violence against the trader. Later, lawyers and councillors also joined the protest. Kamalia City police filed a case against the accused and launched investigation.
INSPECTION
DSP Kamalia Atif Meraaj inspected various police patrolling units at Mandi Mod, Thana Chowk and Karbala Railway Station late at night. On the occasion, he enquired from citizens about police performance. He also sought suggestions from citizens for further improvement in the police performance. He appealed to the public to cooperate with the police for the maintenance of peace in the society. "The police cannot maintain law and order without public assistance," he pointed out.

Family planning week kicks off


LODHRAN-The Family Planning Week will be observed till February 24 in a befitting manner under the auspices of Population Welfare Department.
According to District Population Welfare Officer Mudassir Abbas Hashmi, a speech contest will be held among the students of different public schools on February 20 (today) on the topic of "effects of increasing population on national development".
On February 22, healthy children competition will be held at Welfare Centres in Makhdoom Aali, Kehror Pakka City Complex, Chak 53/M Suiwala, Super Chowk, Rindjara, Lodhran City-1, Chak 356/WB and Chak 351/WB.
Moreover, an awareness workshop will be held on February 23 for the government employees, journalists and religious scholars at the office of Population Welfare Department, Lodhran office. In connection with the family planning week, documentary films will be exhibited in remote areas and awareness sessions will be organized. Different cultural programs will be held on 24th of February. The objective of organizing all these programs is to spread awareness among the masses regarding family planning.

Man axes wife to death

TOBA TEK SINGH-A man killed his wife over some domestic dispute at Gojra on Tuesday.
According to the FIR registered by Gojra Saddr Police, Muhammad Ismail of Jaranwala (Faisalabad), his deceased 45-year-old sister Niaz Bibi was attacked by her 50-year-old husband Muhammad Riaz of Chak 362/JB Korian after a minor quarrel over some issue. He axed his wife to death on the spot. The police have launched investigation into the incident.
