ISLAMABAD - No major upset was witnessed in the second round of the 2nd Begum Kulsum Saifullah Khan Memorial National Ranking Tennis Championships 2016 as all the seeded players won their respective matches played here at Senator Dilawar Abbas PTF Complex on Wednesday.

In the boys’ U-18 pre-quarterfinals, Talha Bin Asif gave tough time to top seed Muzammil Murtaza of Jehanian. Muzammil won the first set on tiebreak 7-6 (4), however, in the second set, Talha failed to match the pace of the top seed and lost the set 6-1. Muzammil will now face 7th seed Shoaib Khan in the quarterfinals. In the other matches of the junior U-18 singles pre-quarterfinals, Shoaib Khan beat Mujahid Zaib 6-0, 6-1; Haris Irfan-ul-Haq beat Zubair Raja 6-0, 6-0; Syed Nofil Kaleem beat Ahmed Asjad 6-0, 6-1; Yousaf Khan beat Musa Ch 6-2, 6-1; Barkatullah beat Kashif Khan 6-3, 6-4; Farhanullah w/o Abdal Haider (medical); Aman Atique beat Hafiz Arbab Ali 6-0, 6-0.

In the men’s singles pre-quarterfinals, Aqeel Khan beat Malik Abdul Rehman 6-3, 6-4; M Muzammil beat Shahzad PAF 6-1, 6-4; Yasir Khan beat Shahid Afridi 7-5, 6-3; Ahmed Ch beat Shaheen Mehmood 6-0, 6-2; Heera Ashiq beat Barkatullah 6-0, 6-3; M Abid beat Hameed-ul-Haq 6-0, 6-1; Mudassar Murtaza beat Syed Nofil Kaleem 6-0, 6-4; Shahzad Khan beat Jibran-ul-Haq 6-0, 6-0. In the men’s doubles first round, Abdul Rehman/Aman Atiq beat Ejaz/Abbas 7-6(6), 5-7, 11-9. In the ladies singles first round, Mahin Aftab beat Ishal Khan 6-0, 6-0; Fatima Ali Raja beat Zainab Ali Raja 6-1, 6-2; Meheq Khokhar beat Raymal Mumtaz 6-0, 6-0; Shaheena Bibi beat Bakhtawar Haider 6-3 6-0.

In the boys U-14 singles pre-quarterfinals, Shoaib Khan beat M Ali 4-0, 4-0; Hamid Israr beat Hassan Khan 4-1, 4-2; Nalain Abbas beat Jassir Manzoor 4-0, 4-2; Obaidullah beat Shayan Shamraiz 4-0, 4-1; Ahmed Nael beat Umer Masood 4-1, 4-0; M Abdullah beat Raza Ahmed Siddique 4-1, 4-1; Subhan Bin Salik beat Samad Areejo 5-3, 4-1.

In the 10 and under event, which is using 75 percent ITF pressure balls, as many as three matches were decided, as Ibrahim Bin Sohail, Hamad Khan (Karachi) and Rayanul Haq won their respective matches.
