Corruption a silent killer, says NAB chief

Islamabad - Justice Javed Iqbal, Chairman National Accountability Bureau said that corruption was a cancer which was a silent killer.

He added that NAB officers will double their efforts to come up to the expectations of the nation to eradicate.

Chairman NAB said that the anti-corruption body is committed to root out the menace in all its forms and manifestations. He said that corruption is major hurdle in the way of progress and prosperity of the country as it creates injustice, and increases poverty by depriving a deserving person of his due right on merit. He said that NAB has perfected its procedures and geared up to make NAB more proactive.

Our overall performance has remained excellent as compared to other Anti-Corruption Organizations. Today NAB has rejuvenated, and NAB officers continue to work hard with professionalism, and transparency. He said that the figures of complaints, inquiries and investigations are doubled as compared to the same period of 2016 to 2017.

He said that NAB has introduced a new System of Combine Investigation Team (CIT) in order to benefit from the experience and collective wisdom of senior supervisory officers.

A system of CIT comprising Director, Additional Director, Investigation Officer and a Senior Legal Counsel has been put in place. This will not only lend quality to the work but also ensure that no single individual can influence the proceedings. The results of CIT are very encouraging.

He said that NAB has devised monitoring and evaluation System to track implementation and outputs systematically, and measure the effectiveness of performance which helps in enhancing the operational, monitoring and evaluation capabilities of NAB.

He said that Monitoring and Evaluation System provide the necessary data to guide strategic planning and helps improving performance and achieving results to improve current and future management of outputs, outcomes and impact.

He said that Monitoring and Evaluation System (MES) is an important management tool to track progress and facilitates in decision making as well as establishing links between the past, present and future actions.

He said that after implementation of MES in NAB, the performance of NAB Officers/officials has improved.
