SADIQABAD - Speakers at a seminar held at local press club stressed the need for installing closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) in streets and markets to ensure security of the common man, especially the children.
"These CCTV cameras will help the law enforcement agencies arrest the culprits in the shortest time possible - in the incidents of street crime, particularly in child molestation cases."
Jamaat-e-Islami district administrator – Ms Tasneem Sarwar said that rape and murder of seven-year-old girl Zainab in Kasur is not the first incident of its kind. She added such incidents occur in all around the country but the culprits easily escape punishment due to political pressure or negligence of the authorities concerned. "Had the rapists and murderers of minor children been awarded exemplary punishment, we would not have witnessed a significant increase in such cases," she said.
She urged the government to take effective steps for the life, honour and belongings of the common man the same way it is constructing metro like projects in big cities. She expressed solidarity with Zainab's parents. Participants of the seminar also expressed their condolences over tragic death of Zainab.
Local notables including Haji Abdul Aziz, Qari Saeed Ahmed, Safia Kulsoom, Beena Hussain Khalidi and Abida Sharif were also present on the occasion.
