FAISALABAD - Punjab Minister for Food Bilal Yaseen paid visits to 10 sugar mills located in three districts and examined the sugarcane procurement process.

During a meeting with district administration officials, peasant leaders and management of sugar mills at Faisalabad, Jhang, Athara Hazari, Toba Tek Singh and Shorkot, he categorically emphasised the need for fair weighing of sugarcane at sugar mills.

"Let me clear that no injustice and exploitation of the growers would be tolerated and anyone involved in such practice will be taken to task," he warned. He said, "We are in the field on special instructions of the Punjab chief minister and monitoring of crushing season shall continue till the last day of procurement."

Bilal Yaseen, however, expressed his satisfaction over the actions taken by district officials concerned. He further directed that on complaint lodged by growers immediate action be taken. The food minister also examined receipts on the spot and said hurdles in the way of relief meant for the sugarcane growers be removed within no time.

"Complaints against middleman's role and weighing scales will be considered as failure of district officials and departmental action will be taken against such persons," he concluded.
