KARACHI - Suspension of SSP Rao Anwar is not enough and the government should lodge murder cases against him and his team so that justice can be dispensed to the families whose loved ones were killed in fake encounters, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Haleem Adil Sheikh said here on Saturday.

He was addressing a protest demonstration against extrajudicial killing of Naqeebullah Mehsud. The rally marched from Dawood Chowrangi to DC Office Quaidabad. Angry protesters chanted slogans against the government and called for action against the Malir SSP.

Sheikh said that suspension of Rao Anwar was not a solution to the fake encounters problem. He said the protest would continue till registration of murder cases against Rao Anwar and his team. He said that besides Naqeeb many innocent people had been killed by the police officer in fake police encounters. He said that stains of blood of innocent people could taint the Sindh government.

The PTI leader said if the Sindh government wanted to save itself from the allegations of patronising fake police encounters, murder cases should be lodged against Rao Anwar and his team and justice should be dispensed to affected families.

“Naqeeb was innocent. He was arrested from his shop and later killed in a fake encounter. Not only Naqeeb but many other innocent people were killed by Rao Anwar in the same fashion. The encounter specialist should be held accountable for his crimes,” he demanded. The PTI leader demanded immediate arrest of Rao Anwar and others involved in fake encounters to take them to the task as per law.

Meanwhile, Pasban held a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC) to condemn extrajudicial killing of Naqeebullah Mehsud, Intizar and Shah Muhammad. The protesters were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the government.

Addressing the participants, Pasban leaders said that rulers should tender resignation if they are not capable of providing security to people. They demanded that the government halt fake encounters and killings of innocent people because further negligence could make the situation spiral out of control. They said that killing of innocent people will increase hate among people. The government should take notice of the incident and stop the injustice being done to people in the name of action against terrorists.

They demanded that the government should hang the people involved in the heinous crime and dismiss the official found involved in inhuman practices.
