Rawalpindi - An employee of Wild Life Department’s management board was allegedly shot dead by unidentified assailants within limits of Police Station Margalla, police and sources said on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Safeer Shah whose body was moved to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for autopsy. Police begun investigation after receiving complaint on part of Wild Life Department, they said.

According to sources and police, a seven-member team of Wild Life Department Management Board including Safeer Shah was on routine patrolling near Faisal Mosque to bar the villagers from stealing woods and grazing their cattle when unidentified men opened indiscriminate firing on the team.

Resultantly, Safeer Shah sustained bullet injuries and died on the spot. A police team headed by SHO Margalla Sultan Maiken rushed to the scene and collected evidences besides recording statements of eyewitnesses.

SHO Margalla told media that the Wild Life Department officials told police that some villagers from Shah Allah Ditta village were hurling threats of dire consequences at the department’s employees for refraining them from lashing out goats and cattle for grazing in forest and from stealing woods.

He said that the department accused the villagers of opening firing of patrolling party and killing one guard.

He said that the police were collecting information from the nearby areas for finding the killers.
