KARACHI - The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday warned the secretaries of Home and Defence ministries that they would be jailed if missing persons are not recovered and the report of investigation officer is rejected.

A two-member bench of the SHC, headed by Justice Naimtullah Phulpoto, heard a plea filed by the family of a missing citizen, Abdul Rehman. The court annoyed at the police and relevant authorities for not recovering the missing citizen since five years.

It rejected the report of the investigating officer and sought a new report from the secretaries of Home and Defense ministries in the next hearing. They will be sent to jail if missing persons are not recovered and the report of investigation officer is rejected, warned Justice Phulpoto. “Sindh High Court (SHC) will set an example by sending them to jail,” he remarked.

The court also reprimanded Investigating officer (IO) over non-recovery of missing citizen Younis. “Bring handcuffs and send investigating officer to jail now,” Justice Phulpoto said expressing anger at IO.

“This drama will not be accepted anymore, bring back the missing person, we have no choice but to put the officers in jails,” the court remarked. The court also issued an arrest warrant for the investigating officer in the second case of missing persons.

The court summoned CCPO Karachi on the non-recovery of the missing citizen, Abdul Rehman. It also sought details of captives in detention centres. The families of missing persons also appeared before the court. The court also reprimanded the government lawyers. “Why do you come if you do nothing,” Justice Phulpoto inquired from government lawyers.

The court sought reports from the Sindh Home Department, Sindh police, and other parties on February 17 and adjourned the hearting until the next date.
