Driving past Khairagali on an excellent road recently I was reminded of my stay there in 1999. A hairpin bend in the road was under repair and really massive retaining walls were under construction. The people I stayed with had told me that Shahbaz Sharif used to supervise the work personally and the road builders had to be on their toes not knowing when he might descend upon them. They regretted when he was no longer the chief minister because they thought he could have changed the lives of the people there by improving the means of transportation giving boost to local businesses. However, the good work started then has had the desired results since and Khairagali, Dongagali and Nathiagali are all flourishing these days.-KHURSHID ANWER, Lahore, via e-mail, July 11.
