4th Saarc Interior Ministers moot today

ISLAMABAD (APP) - The fourth South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Interior Ministers Conference will start at Bhutanese Capital Thimphu today (Thursday). Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik, being a Chairman would preside over the annual regional conference which would remain continue till July 23. According to information, on the first day, authorities of the eight member Association would discuss issues relating to immigration while the second day is dedicated for Home Secretaries to discuss the relevant agenda. Interior Minister, Rehman Malik would chair the conference on July 23. The Home and Interior Ministers, Secretaries and other relevant officials of SAARC including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka would attend the conference. It merits mentioned here that at the 13th SAARC Summit held in Dhaka in November 2005, the Heads of State or Government decided that the SAARC Interior/Home Ministers should meet annually, preceded by a meeting of the Interior/Home Secretaries to strengthen cooperation. The first meeting of SAARC Interior/Home Ministers was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh while second meeting was held in New Delhi. The 3rd meeting of SAARC Interior/Home Ministers was held in Islamabad from June 23-26, 2010.
