LAHORE Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said the Aashiyana Housing Scheme is meant for the poor and the common man and credit goes to the Pakistan Muslim League-N for realising the dream of shelter-less people to have their own house. This scheme will not only have modern amenities but will also be unique with regard to the speed of execution, its standard and transparency. The Scheme will be started in all districts of the province under a phased programme, he added, while presiding over a meeting to review the pace of progress on the Aashiyana Housing Project here on Wednesday. Chairman Punjab Land Development Company MPA Shaikh Alauddin, Additional Chief Secretary, Commissioner and District Coordination Officer Lahore as well as officers concerned were present. Addressing the meeting, the CM said the transparency in the execution of development projects was the hallmark of Punjab government, and the Aashiyana Project would also be completed in a transparent manner. He added that side-by-side with Lahore, work on the Aashiyana Schemes in Sargodha, Faisalabad, Sahiwal and Jhelum had also been started and land had been identified for these schemes in further 16 districts of the province. He mentioned that school, hospital, mosque, parks, playgrounds and other facilities would also be provided in these schemes, and the schemes were meant for the workers, orphans, widows and marginalised segments of the society, and he would personally supervise these schemes. Provision of shelter to the shelterless is the vision of Nawaz Sharif and the Aashiyana is a step towards its realisation, and the schemes for the shelterless and resource-less people are being constructed at excellent locations and high value lands near cities and modern residential facilities on the pattern of residential schemes of the elite, he said, adding that houses had been allotted through balloting in a highly transparent manner in the first Aashiyana housing scheme and the particulars of the allotees had also been scrutinised so that only deserving persons could benefit. He also said that maximum resources were being utilised for the early completion of the Aashiyana. Shaikh Ala and officials concerned gave a detailed briefing regarding the pace of progress on Aashiyana housing scheme.
