ISLAMABAD - Saba Aziz and Sara Mansoor will vie for the ladies singles top honours at 3:45pm Thursday (today) here at the PTFC complex here. In the first semi-final, top seed Saba Aziz of Lahore did not allow her opponent to settle down with her powerful cross court shots and won the match without conceding a single game in both sets at 6-0, 6-0. In the second semi-final, Sara Mansoor of Islamabad was also in excellent form and won her encounter against Rukhsana Fazal in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Ikram and Shahid supervised the ladies singles semi-finals. Top seed Aqeel Khan will face his younger brother Jalil Khan in the men's singles final of the first Aisamul Haq Master Tennis Championship on Friday at 4:00pm. In the first semi-final, Aqeel Khan eliminated his younger brother Yasir Khan in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. In the second semi-final, M Abid build up an healthy lead of 4-0 in the first by breaking 2nd and 4th game of Jalil Khan with his aggressive game. Jalil Khan fought back and not only levelled the score but also won the first set at 6-4. M Abid made three double faults in the 9th game of the first set. Jalil kept the pressure on in the second set and won the set 6-2. The match lasted for over 2 hours. Earlier, M Abid was hampered by injury as his foot was badly bruised in the quarterfinal but showed tremendous courage and played like a lion. Though he lost the match but the crowd gave him a standing ovation. Asif Ali supervised the match. Top seed M Abid Mushtaq will face second seed Usman Rafiq in the final of the Boys Under-18 singles today. In the first semi-final, M Abid proved too good for Ahmed Ch and beat him in straight sets by 6-2, 6-0. In the second semi-final Usman Rafiq outplayed Hasnain Manzoor in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. M Mudasir and Hasnain Manzoor qualified for the final of the Boys Under-14 singles by beating their respective rivals in straight sets. In the first semi-final M Mudasir struggled to beat Zaid Mujahid in a keenly contested two set match. In the other semi-final Hasnain Manzoor beat M Muzamil 6-2, 6-2. Ladies singles, Boys U-18 singles and Boys U-14 singles finals will be played at 3:45 pm today. Men's singles final will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday along with prize distribution ceremony will be held. Mohsin Ali
