KARACHI - Keeping in view the current law and order situation, the Sindh government on Wednesday announced to extend the additional powers of Rangers for next three months. According to details, a notification in this regard has been issued by Sindh Home Department. The earlier deadline, which was extended on April 20th, expired at midnight. The additional powers, which were granted under Article 5 of the Anti-Terrorism Act to bring law and order situation in control, have empowered the Rangers to conduct raids, search drive, detain and interrogate suspects before handing them over to the police. The spokesman of Sindh Rangers confirmed that Sindh government has extended the additional power for next three months. Meanwhile, return of prisoners to Karachi jails, who were shifted to various other jails of Sindh few days ago, have been directed, a private channel reported. According to the sources, this decision was taken after consultation between Governor Sindh Ishratul Ebad Khan and Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah. It is pertinent to mention here that shifting of prisoners took place after the decision taken by MQM to sit on Opposition benches. Majority of the shifted prisoners belonged to MQM.
