FIA books Gondal, others in EOBI land scam

ISLAMABAD - Anti-Corruption Circle of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered a case against former chairman Employees Old Age Benefit Institution (EOBI) Zafar Gondal and other accused in a fraud case of land purchase.
An FIA official said that 10 accused including Zafar Gondal had been booked in the fraud case for causing loss of Rs 27.50 million to national kitty for purchasing the land at much higher rates that the actual price. He said that EOBI had purchased the land near Kalar Kahar at the rate of Rs 4 million per kanal than the actual price of Rs 0.6 million per kanal. The land was purchased from a close relative of former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, he added.
This is the second case registered by Rawalpindi Zone of FIA against Zafar Gondal in connection with the land purchase fraud. EOBI had purchased this land for the tourist point and FIA has registered the case after thoroughly verifying the facts from the officials of the revenue department of the area.
