Lahore to be pioneer city of PM’s Clean, Green Pakistan initiative

LAHORE   -   Minister for Local Government Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed has said that Lahore will be the pioneer city in the completion and execution of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s initiative Clean & Green Pakistan.

Addressing a press conference to unveil the sanitation plan of Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) for Eidul Azha on Tuesday, he appreciated the company for clearing backlog and heaps around the city after termination of contract with foreign contractors.

Local Government Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal and LWMC Chairman Amjad Awan briefed the media about cleanliness operations, planning, and execution.

“There is a need for change in the behavior of people regarding cleanliness. People must support the LWMC in their Eid operation. Sooner the company will initiate a volunteer program to engage and propagate awareness messages. The LWMC has introduced a cost-effective cleanliness plan for long term, and it will have assets worth Rs5 billion. The mission of making Lahore, one of the cleanest cities of Punjab will be accomplished in near future,” Mehmoodur Rasheed said. “The Local Government secretary will be in the field in all three days of Eid while the other administrative officials will also be on duty,” he added.

Amjad Ali Awan said that was the first Eid for the LWMC to act as an operational company after its transition from monitoring. “The LWMC Board has played a vital role in strengthening and reconstruction of the company. Waste bags are being distributed in cattle markets to save the environment from damage and avoid uncleanness in the city,” he said.
