ISLAMABAD-Mismanagement on part of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) created an untoward situation at F G Girls Model School, G-9/3 when thousands of female candidates arrived for recruitment as schoolteachers against only 280 posts. The chaos and confusion went to the extent that women police had to be called in. They resorted to baton charge to control the crowed. The candidates tore down the registration forms and broke the windowpanes of the school building when the officials of the FDE threw forms from upper storey on the candidates. According to reports arrangements were not made according to the turn out and the fuss started due to the paucity of registration forms. Two centres were established for the registration of the candidates while in Peshawar, Karachi and Quetta interviews had already been completed against 280 posts of BPS-9 and BPS-14 in schools. The level of unemployment in the country can be gauged from the turn out as thousands of candidates had come against 280 posts, some had even come from far-flung areas. There were no proper measures taken by the administration to guide them. Likewise, no security arrangements were made for thousands of candidates, one of the candidates told TheNation. One of the candidates gave her ordeal as, The mismanagement was at its peak. They first asked us to gather in a hall but there was no sitting arrangement and we were asked to sit on the floor. Many women lost their belongings due to rumpus among the crowed. One of the candidate remarked that the few posts had been advertised just to accommodate political workers and their own people. They have made fun of us by calling thousands of candidates from far-flung areas just to fulfil the formality. Spokesperson of Federal Directorate of Education, Muhammad Rafique Tahir, when contacted said there was no shortage of forms and untoward situation developed because of undue presence of people who came with the candidates. He said till June 24 forms could be collected for registration.
