Couple gunned down in Kahna

LAHORE - An alleged accused along with his two accomplices gunned down a couple and injured three others including their two-and-half month old daughter in Kahna police limits on Sunday. The deceased were later identified as Aas Muhammad and his wife Amina. Injured, however, included two-and-half-month old Amirat, the decease couples only baby, Nabila and Shahnaz, sisters of Aas Muhammad. Kahna police investigators said the accused Muhammad Shafique (40) with another accomplice attacked the couple when they were asleep at their house in Kahna. The accused with 30 bore pistols opened fire at the sleeping family early in the morning on Sunday. The couple succumbed to injuries on the spot while the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where their condition was out of danger, an on duty police officer said. Kahna Police Station SHO Zahirudin Babar, however, said according to the preliminary investigations, the accused wanted to kill Haroon, brother of the deceased, but accidentally they killed Aas considering him as Haroon. He said Haroon remained safe in the attack, as he was not there. The SHO further said the accused sprayed indiscriminate bullets at the family without realising that who was in front of them, while their another accomplice was waiting for them in a car, parked at a short distance from the house. All the three accused fled on the car after committing the crime. Police investigators however disclosed the accused, Shafique, had been living in the neighbour of deceased for the last five months. The main cause behind the attack was reported to be the illegal relation of Haroon, brother of deceased, with the spouse of Shafique, a police source said, adding that once the accused had also watched them in compromising condition. A victim family member said that accused used to threaten Haroon and his family members of dire consequences and ultimately he along with his accomplices attacked and killed two of them. I know the spouse of the accused, Shafique, had also committed suicide some two months back, a police officer said. The deceased Aas and his brother Haroon were labourers while accused Shafique was a roadside vendor. Later, police handed over the bodies to the heirs of the deceased after completing medico-legal formalities. The police after registering FIR against the accused started investigation.
