'No improvement despite energy-saving efforts'

LAHORE - The masses voted for a change in February 18, 2008 general election, but since then the country witnessed an immense increase in unemployment, lawlessness and energy crisis. The taxes being levied on IMF diktat have brought the country in danger. The energy-saving plan which the traders in other provinces rejected point-blank is being observed in the Punjab only. These views were expressed by All-Pakistan Anjuman Tajiran President Haji Maqsood Butt, PML-Ns Trade and Investment Senior Vice-President Sheikh Irshad Mehmood, Qaumi Ittehad Lahore Chairman Ansar Zahoor Butt at Waqt News programme 'In Business here the other day. Haji Maqsood Butt said that the traders and shopkeepers in the Punjab following the energy-conservation plan closed the shops and markets by 8pm, but it did not improve loadshedding situation. He alleged that many markets had their self-proclaimed presidents, adding that he was ready to sacrifice his premiership for the welfare and unity of traders community. Irshad Mehmood said if the budget had to be made by a banker then all the business should also be handed over to him. He further said that the traders were facing huge loss, as every market had its own union. The value added tax (VAT) could be imposed on foreign countries but the same was not compatible with Pakistan environment. Ansar Zahoor Butt said that certain traders had been using the energy-saving plan for their political gains. He alleged that Haji Maqsood Butt was creating problems for the traders and markets as he wanted to maintain his supremacy.
