At least eight people, including seven policemen, were killed in a major road mishap in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh Tuesday, said police. The mishap happened when the policemen were rescuing some accident victims on the national highway near Ataria in Uttar Pradesh. The cops were killed when a speeding truck lost control and mowed them down. While six policemen were killed on the spot, one more succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital. The driver of the truck was also killed in the incident. Road accident rate in India is among the highest in the world, with at least 110,000 killed on the road each year.
