ISLAMABAD - Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) has revealed that Director General (DG) Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) was appointed in M-I scale instead of management grade-II. The appointment in M-I resulted in overpayment of Rs4.2 million on account of pay and allowances from June 16, 2008 to November 15,2010, according to the audit report 2010-11 available with TheNation. According to the Finance Division, OM No.F.6(27)IMP-1/79 dated April 30,1980 the post of PCB DG falls in management grade-II. Contrary to it, the audit report said, the DG PBC was appointed on contract basis for two years in M-I scale, vide Cabinet Secretariat (Establishment Division) notification dated June 5,2008. The post of DG PBC was not upgraded to M-I, said report, adding that this resulted in overpayment of Rs4.2 million on account of pay and allowances from June 16, 2008 to November 15,2010. This matter was reported to the management on September 05,2010 and the ministry concerned on December 4,2010. While the management in its reply dated January 3, 2011 stated that director general PBC was appointed by the Government of Pakistan, therefore, the case had been moved to the Establishment Division for comments. The response from Establishment Division was still awaited, report said. Departmental Accounts Committee (DAC) in its meeting held on January 13, 2011 decided to wait for response of the Establishment Division while no progress was reported.
