Textile export sharply down to $11.27 billion

ISLAMABAD - Country's textile exports has drastically reduced by 10 per cent during eleven months (July-May) of the outgoing financial year 2011-12 as it has recorded at $11.273 billion in period under review against $ 12.472 billion of same period last year.According to the figures released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Wednesday, Pakistan exported textile commodities worth of $11.273 billion in July-May period of the outgoing fiscal year as compare the $12.472 billion of the same period of previous financial year 2010-11. Meanwhile, textile's exports had also gone down by 8.95 per cent during the month of May 2012 against the same period last year. Country exported textile commodities worth of $1.140 billion in April 2012 against $ 1.252 billion of May 2011.According to figures released by PBS, the product-wise details showed that raw cotton exports have increased by 31 per cent during the eleven months of the outgoing financial year, cotton yarn exports had decreased by 19.89 per cent, cotton cloth exports went down by 3.13 per cent, cotton carded exports declined by 61.58 per cent, yarn exports down by 18.44 per cent, knitwear export declined by 13.19 per cent, bed wear, 15 per cent, towels, 9.51 per cent, tents export enhanced by 101.75 per cent, readymade garments exports decreased by 6.45 per cent, art silk and synthetic textile exports decreased by 15.90 per cent, made up articles export reduced by 7.56 per cent and other textile materials exports increased by 4.77 per cent in July-May period of 2011-12 against the July-May 2010-11 period, said the PBS data.Meanwhile, the figures revealed that the country's food export also registered a decrease of 3.37 per cent in July-May period of the year 2011-12. The break up of food group exports revealed that rice exports went down by 3.59 per cent in the period under review, fish exports increased by 10.98 per cent, fruits exports surged by 27.46pc., tobacco exports enhanced by 3.12 per cent, vegetables exports reduced by 34.34 per cent, wheat, 74.53 per cent, spices exports increased by 0.71 per cent, oil seeds export 64.53 per cent, sugar, 100 per cent, meat 14.87 per cent and all other food items export enhanced by 38.76 per cent in the period under review. Meanwhile, other manufactures group also enhance by 19.16 per cent. In this group, exports carpets, rugs and mats went down by 5.92 per cent and sports goods exports reduced by 7.29 per cent during the period under reviewed. Similarly, the engineering goods exports has enhanced by over 39.47 per cent, surgical goods and medical instruments exports also went up by 17.0 per cent in July-May period of the current fiscal year against the same period last year.
