The shocking Lahore incident was not expected from the administration of Shahbaz Sharif. The ongoing incidents of terrorism are rising, added to a government that creates an incident where police brutality was witnessed all day on all TV channels, with the masses left gasping for breath. We have no idea who is our enemy and who our friends are. When the Taliban kill the police they are martyrs, but when the police kills innocent people of a city, who is the martyr?
In this incident, the state had failed completely to provide protection to anyone! The state has become so impotent that on a call from London, Karachi is shut down. This fall from grace can only be curtailed if the ‘rule of law’ is strictly enforced and everybody is held accountable. Nobody should be allowed to raise armed private militias, nor any politician, having foreign nationality allowed to indulge in active politics, unless he has paid taxes for preceding ten years or decides to come back and live here.
Pakistan cannot afford this moral degeneration among our ruling elite and state institutions, and political ethics must be followed by every political leader, with paid servants of state strictly doing their duties in accordance with the constitution in addition to corruption being tackled with an iron hand. But the question is, who will do all this, when our current political elites are the biggest criminals?
