ISLAMABAD - National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta), the country’s premier counter terrorism body, has initiated a consultation process for the formulation of first ever National Counter Extremism Policy.
Nacta held the second round of consultative meeting of stakeholders here yesterday while the authority is also preparing to hold the first ever National Counter Extremism Conference.
“In pursuance to approval by minister for interior, regarding initiation of a consultative process for formulation of a “National Counter Extremism Policy”, the prominent personalities of the political leadership from major political parties, senators and members of National Assembly participated in the consultative process,” said a statement issued by the authority.
Moreover, representatives of various think tanks, civil society, civil society organisations (CSOs) and non-government organisations (NGOs) as well as human rights activists participated in the meeting. The statement said the response and input from all the participants was encouraging and valuable to feed into the first National Counter Extremism Conference proposed to be held in near future.
The discussions focused upon six themes including building community resilience, internet and cyber space radicalisation, cultural revival, religious education, rehabilitation and reintegration from prisons and exit environment.
