Wapda unionists called upon authorities concerns to take steps for betterment of working class, said a press release. Reps of All Pakistan Workers Confederation raised the demand at a meeting at Bakhtiar Labour Hall Wednesday. They called upon the government to provide labourers with relief from price hike of utility stuff and petroleum products. They stressed the political parties should incorporate unemployment and poverty alleviation strategy in their election manifestos.  “Dignity of workers is vital for sustainable democracy,” they observed. Noted speakers of the meeting were Robina Jamil, Yousaf Baloch, A Ali Khan, Ch Muhammad Anwar, Rana Hassan, Niaz Khan, Osama Tariq, Mehmood Butt, Muhammad Waris, Osama Tariq, Haji Muhammad Younas, Saeed Gujjar. Veteran union leader Khurshid Ahmed demanded brining the elite into tax net, increase in minimum wages and pension in private sector. Another 41 quack centres closed

The Punjab Healthcare Commission on Wednesday closed down 41 quackery centres in three different cities. The maximum number of quacks’ centres, that is, 18, were sealed in Lahore by the PHC teams, which had also visited Sheikhupura and Kasur. The teams were accompanied by the officials of the district administration and police. Moreover, 14 and nine quacks’ businesses were closed down in Sheikhupura and Kasur respectively.  As per the data 43 quacks – out of the 168 visited centres yesterday – had stopped practicing quacks and chosen other businesses.  In Lahore, nine centres of quacks, that is, M Ahmed Chishti Clinic, Abdul Majeed Clinic, Al-Shifa Clinic, M Asim Clinic, Asif Iqbal Clinic, Hanif Clinic, Medical Centre, Usama Clinic, and Rizwan Clinic and five bone-setters and Hakims, that is, Karamat Jarrah, Bismillah Shifakhana, Hafiz Shifakhana Jarrah, Nadeem Shafi Jarrah and Darul Shifa Dawakhana were sealed. Besides these, fake dentists Riaz Clinic, Meerab Clinic, Asif Dawakhana, Fahad Free Dispensary, Rizwan Medical Store and Clinic, Irfan Clinic, Al-Mustafa Free Dispensary, Maryam Clinic, Mehmood Medical Store, Khadim Hussain and Sons Medical Store and Ali Clinic were sealed. –Staff Reporter



Syeda Nasreen Naqvi, the sister of spokesperson for Punjab Police Syed Nayab Haider, passed away the other day.  Her funeral was held at a local graveyard at Guru Mangat Road, Gulberg on Wednesday. IGP Kaleem Imam, AIG Syed Ejaz Hussain Shah, SSP Rana Ayaz Saleem and local notables attended the funeral.  The deceased was former education director. She was hospitalised for last weeks. Her Qul will be offered after Asr prayers at Jama Masjid Husnainabad today (Thursday). –Press Release
