LAHORE - An application has been moved in the Lahore High Court requesting for early hearing of a petition seeking contempt proceedings against a reporter and a chief editor of a news group for maligning a LHC's judge. Applicant said that as the matter was of grave importance and the court should take prompt action against the publications which are absolutely contemptuous and prima facie defamatory and encouraged other persons to write articles with the reference to the subject matter. In his main petition Barrister Zafarullah stated that he felt aggrieved about a news item appeared in the said paper on February 10 against one of the senior judges of the LHC. He said in the news item that an implied reference was made of his (judge) present working at Bahawalpur bench which equally amounts to identify him by name. The barrister said heading of the said news item was not only bad in taste but also generated hatred among the people in general and eroded confidence of the public at large in the superior judiciary. He said the news item was extremely scandalising and was tended to bring the court into abuse, hatred, ridicule or contempt.
