LAHORE - In order to make reconciliation with the PML-N, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has taken all matters regarding Punjab into his hands, while the Federal Ministers earlier assigned the task of levelling ground for formation of PPP govt in the province have been asked to immediately stop their mission. 'Get Punjab Plan' had been shelved for the time being for the sake of reconciliation with PML-N', said a PPP source privy to an important meeting of three Federal Ministers with PM Gilani, who had summoned the Ministers in Islamabad on Friday to get first hand knowledge of numbers game in Punjab. It is pertinent to mention here that Federal govt had constituted a four-member ministerial committee headed by Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo to pave way for PPP govt in Punjab. Federal Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture, Nazar Muhammad Gondal, Federal minister for Defence Production Qayyum Jatoi were other members of the said team. Besides these, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, Sardar Aseff Ahmad Ali and Syeda Abida Hussain were also asked to make individual efforts to woo legislators from PML-N and PML-Q forward bloc in coordination with the ministerial committee. Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer and Adviser to PM on Interior Rehman Malik were struggling to complete the same mission in their own way. This body was later dubbed as 'Gang of Four' by PPP men as it would meet daily in Lahore at 8-club Road and contact legislators from all parties applying 'carrot and stick policy'. All govt agencies were under instruction to provide them all resources they needed to complete the assigned task. 'For all practical purposes, the Ministerial Committee ceases to exist after instructions from PM Gilani', said the source quoting his conversation with one of the ministers who attended the meeting, Gilani had called to know the factual position regarding PPP's 'accumulated' numerical strength in Punjab Assembly. The fourth member of the Gang Qayyum Jatoi could not attend make it to the PM House due some unavoidable circumstances. According to the source, the three Ministers apprised the PM about latest situation with regard to numbers game in Punjab, but they failed to satisfy him with their performance. The Ministers complained that they were not given free hand in Punjab to complete the mission as many others were also doing the same job at the same time. The PM then asked them to stop all their activities to allure members from other parties as govt was following a policy of reconciliation with the PML-N, and may decide to sit on Opposition benches in Punjab Assembly. Gilani also told them that from now onwards he would himself handle Punjab matters. In a related development, PM Gilani later telephoned PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif and discussed with him matters relating to formation of govt in Punjab. He reportedly offered Nawaz an olive branch assuring that PPP will allow majority party to form govt in Punjab, besides lifting of Governor's Rule in the near future. Gilani also invited Nawaz Sharif to re-join the Federal govt as all concerns of the PML-N on reinstatement of judges had been addressed to their satisfaction. Nawaz thanked Gilani for reinstating the deposed judges through an executive order and invited him over for lunch at Raiwind on Sunday. Gilani has accepted the invitation and the two leaders are most likely to meet in Lahore tomorrow to take forward the process of reconciliation. It is, however, not clear as yet whether or not PM Gilani has the backing of President Zardari regarding his initiative to make peace with the PML-N, as close aides of President including Governor Salmaan Taseer are still advising both the PM and President against surrendering Punjab to Nawaz Sharif.
