LAHORE - A crucial meeting between PML-N Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Ch.Shujaat Hussain for reconciliation talks planned for Saturday (today) has been cancelled. Though there were strong possibility for the meeting between arch political rivals, but all hopes vanished as both sides have yet to make formal contact with each other. Even the influential members of both Leagues, who are big supporters of merger and unification of Muslim League factions, have yet to spring into action for mediation. PML-N chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif held another consultative meeting on Friday. He also held parleys with party leaders over a range of issues including current political scenario after reinstatement of judges. Besides other matter regarding continuity of Governor Rule and expected meeting with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in Raiwind on Sunday (tomorrow) were also taken up. However, neither he nor any leader bothered to give serious thoughts to hold meeting with PML-Q leadership. PML-N President and former Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif had welcomed Shujaat to come to Raiwind but he strongly rejected PML-Q's tripartite formula. The sources in PML-N revealed that after emerging as victorious on the issue of reinstatement of judges, morale of party was at its peak. Numerous senior party advisers believed that PML-N did not need to join hands with any political party in Punjab. They were of the view that if the fight for reinstatement of judges could be won showing determination, they could take the Punjab govt back with the same spirit. Some believed that after meeting with Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, party would be in better position to firm up future line of action. Till that time, it would remain unmoved. Over the last some days, the political circles were also abuzz with the views that Nawaz and Shujaat Leagues will have to join hands sooner than later. The speculations got strength when Sharifs, despite impasse, went to Ch. Shujaat's residence and condoled over his mother's death. After Mumbai attack, both leaders also met during APC called by Prime Minister. Meanwhile, PML-Q senior leader Ejaz Haq, Senator Salim Saifullah and Tariq Azim called on Nawaz Sharif for reconciliation. PML-N leaders Ch. Nisar Ali Khan and Ishaq Dar have also play a role of mediator in this regard.
