ISLAMABAD Federal Interior Minister, Rehman Malik has announced to cancel all fake arms licences obtained fraudulently and the decision was taken in light of the investigations conducted by the Federal Investigation agency (FIA) about the scam. The Interior Minister made this decision at a high level meeting held in the Ministry of Interior. Secretary Interior, DG FIA, DG National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC) and other high officials of the Ministry attended the meeting. The Minister also ordered to initiate legal proceedings against those who involved in the fake arms licences scam, even if they are the Government officials. He also ordered arrest of the culprits in the light of the directives of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He also ordered investigations regarding the allegations of issuance of the fake arms licences against some government officials in connivance with some agents who minted money for issuance of these licences. The Interior Ministrys high ups also apprised the Minister that prior to this, the FIA, after completion of its investigations, had already registered First Information Report (FIR) against three section officers of the Ministry and other person namely Shahzad. The Minister was further informed that Shahzad was in jail while the section officers were on bail and proceedings under the Removal from Service (Special Powers) Ordinance 2000 were under way against them. The Interior Minister also directed the FIA to make possible efforts for cancellation of the bails granted to these officials. The Minister was also informed that according to an internal inquiry conducted by the Ministry to determine the status of pending the cases of licences, some applications were processed without lawful authority and non-credit of licence fee to the public exchequer. In light of the inquiry report and the recommendations of the Standing Committee of the Parliament, the meeting decided that the arms licences for those applications, which had valid authority, would be issued. It was also decided in the meeting that a National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA)s facilitation counter would be established in the Parliament House for Parliamentarians. It was also decided that the licences would now be issued after lifting of the ban by NADRA on behalf of the Ministry of Interior.
