Meeting held at UoP to review situation

PESHAWAR An emergency meeting of the Grater Campus Coordination Committee (GCCC) was held on Saturday here at University of Peshawar to review the situation raised after the death of University of Engineering and Technologys (UET) student, and the protests and violence following the incident. The meeting was chaired by Vice Chancellor (VC) University of Peshawar Prof Dr Azmat Hayat Khan, while on the occasion VC UET, Imtiaz Hussain Gillani, VC Islamia College Charted University, Ajmal Khan, representatives of Agriculture University and of Khyber Medical College were also present on the occasion. In the meeting they offered Fatiha for the departed soul of the deceased student, who succumbed to injuries and lost his life last night, the committee also expressed solidarity with the parents of the (late) student Adnan. They also showed their firm commitment to put to task the culprits involved in his murder. They were decided to take all decisions across the board as per the directives of the chancellor and reaffirmed that decisions would be made with consensus. They were also decided to allow the male students to stay on campus belonging to the far flung and militancy hit areas like Kurram agency, North and South Waziristan agencies and Chitral etc. For this purpose coordination committee decided to allot hostel no 1 and 2 to the students of UoP, UET, AUP, ICU and KMC, have made the arrangements in separate hostels on the premises, for which they were directed to contact provost office, they said. To display any political banner and or badges were bans to hold on campus and also the regional societies were to be restricted in future. In the meeting they were also decided to establish a coordination office at Khyber House near coffee shop where any case of any untoward situation, accident or mishap would be reported for a joint action. In this reference a committee was made under the supervision of provost to review the overall security and hostel situation on campus and report their recommendations in the forthcoming meeting of the campus coordination committee, which is to be held on 24th of this month. While addressing the meeting, VC said that any one who responsible for the murder of the student, strict action would be taken against who ever is and we would not allow any one to take mileage of the situation. He said that, we are vigilant enough of the situation and would take all corrective measures to bring academic environment normal on campus. Dr. Azmat Hayat added that we are trying our level best to reopened the university very shortly and the precious time of the students would not wasted, and added meanwhile all the exams except metric exams held in affiliated schools would postponed in all the four universities and Khyber Medical College. Earlier, Imtiaz Gillani VC, Engineering University briefed the gathering about the whole situation, which led to the murder of a UET, student. Secretary GCCC, Sherinzada Khattak, adjourned the meeting till Wednesday, March 24, for a review of the situation and for further action.
