LAHORE (APP) - Chief Election Commissioner Justice (r) Hamid Mirza has called in Pakistan Rangers for a free, fair, impartial and transparent by-election in PP-111 Gujrat on March 24. Provisional Election Commissioner Akhtar Hussain Sabir told APP on Saturday, We have given requisition to the competent authority for the deployment and patrolling by Pakistan Rangers in PP-111 Gujrat to fully ensure peaceful and congenial atmosphere during the polling. He said in addition to the Rangers, armed contingents of Punjab Police would also assist the election staff for holding the by-polls, adding that the election material would provided to the staff according to the plan. He said, We have made foolproof elaborate arrangements for conducting smooth and fair polling. He said a total of 112 polling stations comprising 337 booths had been established for nearly 183,000 registered male and female voters who would be facilitated to exercise the right of franchise with their free will. Akhtar said 31 candidates from different political parties and independents were in the run, with a hot contest expected between the candidates of the PML-N and PML-Q. The seat fell vacant after the disqualification of the PML-N MPA.
