LAHORE Syed Paper Mills Stags defeated Lahore Eagles by 160 runs in the first SPM Lahore Veterans Cricket League at Model Town Green Ground. Chief guest of the match was Test/ODI opener Salman Butt who praised the efforts of SPM head Aizad Sayid for promoting veteran cricket in Lahore in order to refresh the memory of those players who were stars in their yester years. He said that veteran cricket stay at Pakistan if persons like Ashiq Qureshi, Aizad will stick to their task of giving oldmen opportunity to move towards field of veteran cricket. Salman, later on, presented man of the match award to former ODI opener Shahid Anwar. SPM put up fine batting display to make 302-5 in 35 overs. Shahid Anwar made 91, Kamran Khan 69, Asad Iqbal 56, Rafaqat Ali 45, Asif Mehmood 20 not out. Rashid Majeed 3-60, Salim Butt 2-49 were successful bowlers for Eagles who managed only 142 in reply. Muhammad Imran made 31, Rashid Butt 28, Salim Butt 13, Israr Shah 15 for losers while Stags Asif Mehmood 4-32, Zia Uddin 2-29, Sajjad 1-29, Qadeer Shah 1-1 were wicket takers. Ahsan Raza, Anis Siddiqui were umpires while Abdul Hameed was scorer.
