'225 families affected by Sialkot windstorm

LAHORE - Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority Khalid Sherdil has said that on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif survey of losses due to windstorm in Sialkot has been completed and tokens have been issued to stricken people after registration of the affected houses. According to a handout issued here on Sunday, Khalid said according to the survey 225 families of three villages having a total population of 1218 persons have been seriously affected. He said that 66 brick houses have been completed destroyed while 83 have been partially damaged. Similarly, seven mud houses have been partially damaged while nine have been completely destroyed. He further stated that five person lost their lives while 40 others were seriously injured who were provided medical assistance in hospital. He said 51 persons who received minor injuries were provided treatment at the spot. The situation is completely under control, he added. Labourer killed, another injured: A labourer was killed while another injured during digging a well at Bagarian Chowk, Green Town here on Sunday. Police said that Bashir and Saleem were digging a well when a mound of clay fell upon them. As a result, Bashir died on spot while Saleem received injuries. The Rescue volunteers rushed to spot and succeeded to pull Saleem out from debris. He was shifted to local hospital.
