KARACHI At least 12 people fell victim to target killings in the city on Sunday, while the MQM blamed Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza for the recent wave of unrest, adding that he (Mirza) was not directly involved though. MQMs Waseem Aftab also urged Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudary to take suo moto notice of the Karachi killings. MQM chief convener Farooq Sattar urged President Zardari to take notice of MQM workers being targeted. He also demanded arrests of all the killers and of those disrupting peace in the city. Reconciliatory policy of MQM should not be considered our weakness, he added. The victims of the target killings were mostly political activists of Muttahida Qaumi Movement which resulting in protests in various localities of the city where hundreds of MQM workers chanted slogans against the frequent target killings of party workers and attacks on MQM offices. The areas from Federal B to Kharader remained disturbed where MQM workers staged protests and burnt tyres. Miscreants set fire to a bus at Safora Chowk. In Arambagh, unknown men lobbed a hand grenade at MQM office, but it luckily didnt explode and the bomb disposal squad rushed to the spot and sized the grenade. Following the attack, workers and supporters of MQM hit the roads and staged a protest against the failure of law agencies. In the aftermath of the killing of MQM workers, hundreds of workers from various areas came out on streets. An activist of MQM was shot dead while other injure when culprits attacked MQM unit office located in Khamosh Colony within the limits of Gulbahar police station. The incident took place at Khamosh colony near Firdous Muhalla where MQM workers were sitting at MQM office unit 167, when two armed men reached on motorcycle and open indiscriminate fire. Resultantly, 45-year-old Ghulam Hussain son of Mohammad Hussain, and Shafi, 40, son of Rafiq, sustained injures. Police shifted the injured to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) where during treatment Ghulam Hussain succumbed to his injuries. After that incident tension prevailed in Gulbahar, Khamosh Colony, Paposh, Nazimabad and surrounding areas. Victim was the resident of Khamosh Colony and father of two children. Unidentified miscreant set on fire a passenger bus at Rizvia Chowrangi, while heavy contingents of police and Rangers were deployed in the area to avert any further incidents. No case was registered till filing the report. It is pertinent to mention here that another MQM unit office located in Soldier Bazaar area was targeted with a hand grenade, while earlier PPP leader Habib Jans office was also targeted in a same manner in the limits of Napier Police Station. Separately another activist of MQM was shot dead in Moosa Lane Lyari in the limits of Baghdadi police station. The victim was identified as Kamran Khatri, son of Ali Asghar Khatri, resident of Darya Abad Lyari, while police found his bullets-riddled body having torture marks from Moosa Lane Baghdadi. According to police officials, the victim was activist of MQM Lyari Sector and he worked at the electronic shop in Saddar. Another activist of MQM was shot dead in Mosmiat Chowk in the limits of Mobina Town Police Station. The victim, 28-year-old Shahzad, son of Talib Hussain, was sitting at auto workshop situated near Shakeel Garden Mosmiat Chowk when two armed men on a motorcycle sprayed bullets on him. He received 14 bullets and died on the spot. SHO Abdul Sattar said victim was worker of MQM, Gulshan Maymar Sector unit-33 and he was resident of Sheraton Square Gulshan Iqbal. Tension prevailed in surrounding areas all shops and market closed. Separately, 30-year-old activist of Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) Khushnood Butt, son of Bahauddin was gunned down in the precincts of Chakiwara Thana on Maula Madad Raod. Unidentified gunmen on motorcycle shot him three times. Deceased was the resident of Orangi and hailed from Hazara. The body has been shifted to hospital. MQM-H leader Feroz Haider said victim was the sector member of Orangi Town. Two young men were shot dead when at least four men on two motorcycles opened indiscriminate firing at a pan shop. As a result, pan shop owners 26-year-old Vicky Kumar and Asghar, 27, were injured and taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi where both succumbed to injuries. Kumar was said to be resident of Kamil Street where the incident occurred while Asghar was resident of Moosa Lane, Lyari. Tension prevailed Kharadar and Lyari areas following the incident. Police have yet to be registered a case while bodies were handed over to the family after autopsy. Police have so far been unable to ascertain the political affiliation of both victims while suspect their affiliation with MQM. Police also found a bullet-riddled body of young man from Maripur road near peoples football ground in the precincts of Kalri Police Station. The victim identified as Mohammad Rafiq, 24, son of Mohammad Ilahi was the resident of Garden area; unidentified culprits kidnapped him from Garden area and after murder threw his body in Maripur Road. SHO Zahid Tanoli said victim was the employee of garments factory in SITE area and hailed from Attock, Punjab. The body was shifted to CHK and later handed over his family. Separately, a man was gunned down in Bara Board near Bismillah Hotel, Pak Colony police said. A cop was gunned down in Gulzar Hijri area of Mobina Town Police Station. The victim Head Constable (HC), 39-year-old Arshad Ali alias Kundi, was sitting outside his home situated at Gulzar Hijri Police Lane when unidentified armed sprayed bullets on him. A resident of Pukhtoonabad, Khayal Muhammad Mehsood, son of Muhammad Khan Mehsood, was shot five times in Rashidabad near Mushki Pahari area in the limits of Mongopir police station.
