LAHORE Two police cops were gunned down by three unidentified accused seconds after the police team signalled them to stop for search at Outfall Road near Ghora Hospital in Lower Mall police precincts in the wee hours of Sunday. The deceased police officers were identified as Sajjad Hussain, resident of Sheikhupura, and Abdul Razzaq, resident of Sialkot. Police said that a police team comprising Sajjad, Abdul Razzaq and Aman Ullah established a police picket under the supervision of an ASI Niaz Ahmed. Niaz and Aman Ullah were on routine patrolling in a nearby street when the deceased officers stopped three pedestrians for search, they added. Reportedly, a government audit officer Auranzeb was witnessing the entire episode. According to his claim, the police team was near to check them when they opened indiscriminate fire on them resultantly Sajjad Hussain (5034) and Abdul Razzaq (4912) suffered multiple bullet injuries. He said about four to five bullet pierced into the various body parts of the deceased officers. According to eyewitnesses accounts, Sajjad also opened a fire on the dacoits but it went missing. Meanwhile the locals phoned Emergency Police (15), who reached the spot and rushed the injured to the Mayo Hospital where the doctors pronounced them dead. A senior police officer of the City Division said, As both the officers died while discharging their duties so they would be declared martyred and their families could claim the facilities announced for the heirs of martyred officers. However, a large number of police officers reached the spot and cordoned off the area. According to eyewitness, the dacoits managed to flee from the crime scene before the police approached the site. They also picked away a semi automatic rifle of the police officers, he added. Police investigators said apparently it seemed the dacoits were professional killers. An FIR had been lodged against the unidentified accused with no arrest made till filing of this report. The bodies of the deceased officers have been also handed over to their heirs after completing necessary medico-legal formalities. The funeral prayers of the two cops were held at Police Lines, Qillah Gujjar Singh which was attended by Punjab IG Javed Iqbal, CCPO Lahore Aslam Tareen, DIG Rao Sardar, SSP Operations Faisal Rana and others. Iqbal also announced the reward money of Rs 3 million each to the both deceased officers. TWO SHOT DEAD: A 25-year-old boy was killed, over what the police believed, in a clash between friends at Naulakha Park in Misri Shah police precincts on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Bilal Ahmed, resident of Faiz Bagh. Police said that few friends including Bilal were busy talking in Naulakha Park when they scuffled over any issue, which resulted in indiscriminate firing. As a result of which Bilal suffered multiple injuries and was shifted to a local hospital where he breathed his last. Police registered a case against the accused with no arrest so far. Meanwhile, the bandits killed a 60-year-old Waheed Rehman seconds after he offered resistance during a dacoity bid in Garden Town police area on Saturday night. The deceased along with his son and wife riding a car (IDG-5152) were on their way back to home after attending a marriage ceremony in Research Colony, Garden Town, when two dacoits signalled them to stop, police sources said. According to them, the dacoits snatched gold ornaments, cash and other valuables worth millions of rupees and started abusing the victim family. The deceaseds son, an eyewitness, said when his father rebuked them from abusing they opened indiscriminate fire on his father. About seven bullets pierced into his head and chest, which claimed his life, an on duty police officer said. The police have lodged a murder case against the accused, yet to be ascertained, with no arrest till filing of this report. The body was handed over to the bereaved family after completing medico-legal procedure. Further investigations were underway.
