RAWALPINDI – In a daring day light robbery incident that too right under the nose of City Police Officer (CPO), four unidentified intruders snatched prize bonds worth Rs 1 million from a citizen on gunpoint at Katcheri Chowk, the area of Police Station (PS) Civil Lines, sources informed on Wednesday.The occurrence of such incident in heavily guarded Katcheri Chowk, where offices of Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, District Coordination Officer, CPO, SSP Operations, SP Saddar Circle and many other government offices are located besides presence of troops on security duty of convoy the of Chief of Army Staff, has not only exposed the security arrangements in the high security zone but also sent a shock wave among the citizens.According to the sources, one Inam-ul-Haq, resident of Sadiqabad, bought the prize bonds from State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) located on The Mall of Rs 10,00,000. As Inam reached the Katcheri Chowk, four unknown robbers intercepted him on gunpoint and snatched the prize bonds and fled, the sources said adding that the victim made hue and cry but nobody paid heed.A case in this regard was registered with the PS Civil Lines. However, Station House Officer (SHO) PS Civil Line Syed Ijaz Hussain Shah, when contacted, hushed up the matter saying, “No such incident has occurred in his limits”. Another police cop Muhammad Tauqeer of PS Civil Lines, when phoned by this scribe to know the details of the incident, he allegedly misbehaved with this scribe.SP Potohar Town Haroon Joya, on a telephonic conversation with TheNation, however, confirmed the incident but denied the fact that the citizen was deprived of prize bonds on gunpoint saying, “A gang of swindlers plundered the citizen”. Sharing the details, SP said that the incident took place on 20 or 25 February 2013 and was not reported to police at that time. He said that the victim approached PS Civil Line officials three days ago on which police took up a case and started investigation.Meanwhile, a purse-snatcher injured a woman by stabbing knife into her belly upon offering resistance while purse snatching at Liaquat Chowk on Benazir Bhutto Road (BBR), the precinct of PS Waris Khan. Nonetheless, a traffic warden Shakeel did a bravo and captured the fleeing purse-snatcher and handed it over to police. A case was registered against the accused, who later identified as Babar son of Basheer, aged 25, hails from Dhoke Ratta. The injured woman was shifted to BBH for cure where her condition is stated to be out of danger.According to the police, a citizen Muhammad Rasheed, resident of Shakeriyal, House Numbr 441, Street Number 21, Muhalla Raja Town, reported to police that his wife Naseem Akhter was standing at Liaquat Chowk when a robber tried to snatch her purse. On offering resistance, the robber stabbed sharp knife into her belly and run away. He sough police action against the robber. Police filed a case and started investigation. The accused was in police custody, informed police.On the other hand, four armed dacoits stormed into a private clinic located at Scheme II and looted Rs 60,000 cash, a mobile phone and a motorcycle from the patients.The robbers managed to flee from the scene while brandishing lethal weapons after committing the crime.According to the sources, four unknown robbers arrived at Hameedan Clinic at Scheme II, the limits of PS Airport and made hostage the patients, the doctors and paramedics on gunpoint. Later, they collected Rs 60,000 cash, a mobile phone and snatched a motorcycle (RIK-4799) from a patient and run away.SHO PS Airport Malik Rafaqat, during an interaction, also tried to push the matter under the carpet by claming that only a motorbike was snatched by three robbers. When asked further detail of the incident, he replied he just reached at crime scene and was recording the statements of victim and eyewitnesses and would share the detail after some time. But, later SHO switched off his mobile phone.
