RAWALPINDI - Lahore Lions inflicted a shocking 46-run defeat on Sialkot Stallions by D/L method in the Faysal Bank Cup One-day Tournament first semi-final here at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Putting into bat first in the rain-hit match, Lahore were all out for 232 runs in 44 overs as match was reduced to 44 overs a side due to overcast conditions and slight drizzle. Umar Siddique smashed 59 runs studded with nine boundaries while Saad Nasim added unbeaten 55 hitting four fours and four sixes, Usman Salahuddin contributed 44 and Fahadul Haq added 32. Nayyar Abbas and Bilawal Bhatti clinched three wickets each. In reply to Lahore’s 232 runs, Sialkot were all out for 192 runs in 42.4 overs. Shahid Yousaf was top scorer for Sialkot with 40 runs while Ali Khan added 36 and Yasir Aziz 25. Qaiser Ashraf ripped through Sialkot batting by grabbing four wickets for 33 while Asif Raza took three for 41 and Aizaz Cheema two for 42. Saad Nasim and Qaiser Ashraf of Lahore Loins were jointly named players of the match.

Meanwhile a sizable crowd witnessed the match. The crowd could have packed the entire stadium, had Pindi admin allowed entry to general public but security staff posted at the site did not allow general public to enter the ground. Only one gate was opened and that too was packed with spectators who wanted to witness the match inside the stadium. It is the duty of local administration to let the crowd enter in numbers to showcase Pakistan's soft image to the rest of the world and spread a message that Pakistan is completely safe for all kinds of sporting activities.

Had common sense prevailed among the Pindi admin deployed at the main gate of the stadium, the entire ground could have been filled with spectators. The PCB must chalk out a plan with the local administration for the remaining two matches - second semi-final and final - to ensure a pack capacity crowd at the venue.
