ISLAMABAD - After President Zardari’s decision to hold the general elections on May 11, the Election Commission has announced that poll schedule will be made public on 23rd of this month.

An ECP spokesman announced that the process of submission of nomination papers will begin on 25th of this month‚ which will be completed on 30th. Scrutiny of nomination papers would begin on 31st and will continue for seven days. This, in effect, means that all the scrutiny of all particulars to be submitted by the candidates will not be as tight as was being expected.

Various parties have been demanding that full month should be earmarked for the purpose. However, subsequently the scrutiny period was agreed upon 14 days. But what the ECP spokesman said means no change in the previous routine. According to the ECP spokesman, as quoted by some TV channels, candidates will be able to withdraw their nomination papers by 18th of next month while final list of the contesting candidates would be published the following day i.e. April 19.
