LAHORE – Pakistan Railways players excelled in the 1st Sunrise All Pakistan Badminton Championship to be played here at the Wapda Town Hall.
It was the major upset of the day when Pakistan Railways’ players Zohaib Qamar and Nabeel Akhtar outclassed former national champion Umer Zeeshan and Zafar Tasneem of Wapda Green by 21-15, 21-12 to reach the final of men’s doubles final.
In the final, the Railway players will now meet Rizwan Azam and Kashif Ali who defeated Hashir Bashir and Waqas Ahmad of Wapda White.
International badminton coach Raziuddin Ahmad lauded the best performance of Railway’s pair Zohaib and Nabeel for breezing into the final of the national event for the first time and congratulated their coaches M Akram and Masood on their effective coaching to their players.
Razi also appreciated the efforts of Umer Zeeshan, who is international player for holding such a healthy activity in cooperation with Chief Executive Ali Exports Shaikh Asim with the highest ever prize money of Rs 7,50,000 national shuttlers.
