Aiwan to promote education: Nizami

LAHORE  - Pakistan Movement Worker and The Nation Editor-in-Chief Dr Majid Nizami Thursday said that the Aiwan would become beacon of best education and training for the youth.
He spoke at a special session held at the office of the Aiwan-i-Quaid-i-Azam Johar Town.
He said that the central and provincial governments contributed towards the construction of this grand masterpiece of architecture.
Those present on the occasion include NPT Vice Chairman Professor Dr Rafique Ahmad, former Federal Shariah Court chief justice Mian Mehboob Ahmad, Lt-Gen (r) Zulfikar Ali Khan, Nazaria-i-¬Pakistan Trust Chief Coordinator Mian Farooq Altaf, Etimad Engg Pvt Ltd Chief Executive Mazhar-ud-Din Ansari, Kashif Aslam Associates’ Abid Naeem, Sardar Maroof Khan, Resident Engineer Tahir Mehmood, NPT Secretary Shahid Rasheed and eminent columnist Asar Chauhan.
Dr Majid Nizami remarked that the Aiwan-i-Quaid-i-Azam is near completion and an amount of Rs900million will be required to bring its construction to conclusion. He observed that it was Shahbaz’s Punjab government that had made the most donations towards the construction of the Aiwan.
The Aiwan will disseminate the lofty thoughts and ideas of the Quaid-i-Azam not only on national, but also on international level.
Prof Dr Rafique Ahmad said that everyone wanted to see the Aiwan operational as soon as possible. We plan to start internship programmes for the students from the educational institutions in the vicinity, regular sessions of the Trust and mobile classes.
Mazharur Din Ansari remarked that the Aiwan was going to last for centuries. The residential units have already been completed whereas the library and the gallery will be completed by April 30 and May 31 respectively.
Justice (r) Mian Mehboob Ahmad observed that the Aiwan must be brought to completion on priority basis, so that it might become the venue of all ideological functions.
Mian Farooq Altaf remarked that the architect and consultant were being provided all they needed. Lt Gen (r) Zulfiqar Ali Khan suggested that no compromise be made on the standards of construction.
A detailed briefing was given about the different phases of the Aiwan’s construction. Later, Dr Majid Nizami reviewed the construction work.
