LAKKI MARWAT - Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf MNA Col (Retd) Ameerullah Khan Marwat on Thursday said that one billion saplings would be planted under Green Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Programme to improve forestation and clean environment.

This he said while speaking at a function held in Government Middle School Muhammadkhel near Lakki City in connection with launching tree plantation campaign. The lawmaker formally kicked off the drive by sowing Araucaria plant in the premises of school.

He also distributed fruit plants among the students, teachers and residents of locality. Students of the school took keen interest in the tree plantation activity and they were happy to get free fruit plants.

Speaking at the function, Divisional Forest Officer Bannu Farhatullah Khan said that the Forest Department had successfully achieved the target of plantation on 50-acre tract of land. "Besides we also established plant nurseries on 50-acre land in the district and carried out plantation on both sides of Chashma-Darra Tang road," he maintained.

The DFO said that the department planned to carry out plantation on sides of Manjiwala link road in near future. SDFO Lakki Muhammad Yaqoob Khan, headmasters Salahud Din and Ikramullah and a prominent social activist Haji Mohibullah were in the attendance.

"With KP Green Programme the forest area will be increased up to 25 percent in the province," Ameerullah said. He underlined the need for extending forests to bared lands and asked the officials of forest department to work hard making Lakki Marwat district green and clean.

"The increase in timberlands will help to keep environment clean and save land from degradation and erosion," he told. He called upon the teachers and students to motivate area people on taking enthusiastic part in tree plantation campaign.
