RAWALPINDI: The Women's Week 2014 kicked off at the Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) here on Thursday.

The students of all the departments were celebrating in it with utmost zeal and enthusiasm. The event would continue till March 22 engaging students in curricular and extracurricular activities, the spokesman said.

The theme for this year is "Kirdar Ka Ghazi". The Women's Week included plethora of events including Naat and Qirat competition, Photography, Painting Competition, Bait Bazi, Singing, Bilingual Declamation, Mushaira, and Drama Competition. The activities were organized with the objective to showcase and foster the students' creative and spiritual capabilities. The first day of the three-day activities began with the Qira'at and Na'at competition.–Staff Reporter

Different universities from across Pakistan participated in the event. Ghouson Juma, Spouse of Ambassador of Syria, graced the event as chief guest. 

The judges for Qira'at competition were Qari Muhammad Saleem Naeemi, Ayesha Rafiq and Summaya Tahira whereas Riaz Qadri, Tehreem Zafar and Fareena Iqbal were among the judges. The participants were given verse 86 of Surah Nisa to recite from the Holy Quran. The participants mesmerized the audience with their soulful voices. 

In the Qirat competition, the first position was secured by Muhammad Tayyab from Punjab University, Lahore, second position went to Hafiz Umair Abid from Sargodha University and Amina Zainab from FJWU was declared the winner of third position. The Running Trophy was won by Punjab University Lahore as per decision of the judges. 

According to the judgment, the winners for the Na'at Competition were Ghufran Chisti from the Punjab University, Lahore, won the first prize while second prize was given to Munazza Anwar of Sargodha University and the third prize was given to Fareeha Yaqoob of the host university (FJWU) but she withdrew in favour of Rozneen of Karakorum University.

Ghouson Juma was quite impressed by the performance of the participants. She congratulated the participants and praised the university for conducting such activities.

While sharing her views, she said that it's good to see that in Pakistan lot of emphasis is given on women's education and empowerment. She advised the students to follow the path of Holy Prophet (PBUH).

The highlight of the event was the Artisan Mela. Ghouson Juma along with Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Samina Amin Qadir inaugurated the mela.
