LAHORE - FIA Immigration at Allama Iqbal International Airport (AIIAP) took legal action against its 29 delinquent officials during last one year, said statistics available with The Nation.

FIA Additional Director Tariq Abbas Qureshi said that three cases were registered against an inspector, two sub-inspectors and a constable on their alleged involvement in illegal activities. On the other side, six FIA inspectors, eight sub-inspectors, one ASI and 10 constables were suspended on same charges.

Keeping in view the performance of FIA immigration staff, the government has delegated the powers of Extension of Pakistani Visa up till 30 days to overstayed foreign nationals including dual nationality holders overseas Pakistanis, the FIA officer claimed.

Accordingly, a large number of foreign passport holders are regularly benefiting the facility. As many as 349 visa extensions were given in 2014, while during the current year 158 extensions were given to such passengers, he maintained.

During the current year FIA facilitation officers have provided assistance and facilitation to 956 international passengers of these categories. For the convenience of passengers separate counters have been established at international arrival and departure.

For the convenience of international passengers, FIA Immigration Lahore has introduced a SMS service to receive passenger complaints and suggestions. This step has been taken to receive the feedback from the passengers regarding the services provided by FIA Immigration, the complaints of the passengers and to take appropriate actions accordingly.

A special vigilance team is constituted by the FIA Punjab director for snap checking of FIA immigration staff.
