Lahore - As the SNGPL is planning to entertain applications for new gas connections to the industrial consumers following the arrival of Re-gasified Liquid Natural Gas from Qatar, the business community has welcomed the plan terming it a right decision in right direction. Moreover, the SNGPL has also initiated the process of approving new gas supply connections to industrial consumers.

PIAF Chairman Irfan Iqbal Sheikh has asked the authorities to speed up the process as RLNG gas connections is must for the revival of the industry which were temporarily closed due to unavailability of gas. He said that hundreds of industrial consumers have applied for new industrial connections and applications must be processed without delay, Irfan sheikh added. The purpose is to avail the RLNG at the earliest to cut the production cost, which is proving a major hurdle in competing internationally, he added.

It may be noted that the ministry has offered RLNG at a cost of $6.3 per MMBTU, which is supposed to be ideal energy cost to compete internationally. The textile industry has taken deep sigh of relief after the availability of RLNG, as this industry has paid through nose due to non-availability as well as non-affordability of energy over the last one decade.
