KARACHI - Leaders of Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) on Sunday announced launching province-wide protest drive from April 1 against the Sindh government’s corruption and bad governance.

The GDA leaders made this announcement during a briefing to the media men after the meeting held at PML-F chief Pir Sadruddin Shah Rashdi’s residence.

Sindh former home minister Zulfiqar Mirza, Arabab Ghulam Rahim, Liaquat Jatoi, Mumtaz Bhutto, National People’s Party’s Masroor Jatoi, Makhdoom Fazal Mehmood, MPA Haji Shafi M Jamote, Irfanullah Marwat and Qaumi Awami Tehreek’s (QAT) Ayaz Latif Palijo attended the meeting. The GDA leaders discussed various issues including the provincial government corruption, bad governance and incidents of terrorism which have affected the common man. Addressing the media men after the meeting, Ayaz Latif Palijo said Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), through National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) with former president Pervez Musharraf, empowered the corrupt people in the party and these persons carried out massive corruption which is the main reason of the worst condition of the province. He alleged that massive corruption has been carried out in various departments including education, agriculture, forest and others.

He said the leaders of Grand Alliance had decided to launch a protest drive against the provincial rulers. The drive would start on April 1 from Hyderabad. It will include demos and public gathering in which the leaders will reveal the wrongdoings of the rulers that has affected the life of common man. He said on April 2, a rally has been scheduled in Tando Allah Yar that would reach Mirpurkhass in evening while a public gathering is also scheduled in Umerkot the same day. “We are urging the people to come on roads against the cruel rulers who have left the people in miserable condition instead of providing any relief,” said Ayaz. To a question, Palejo said the NRO of the PPP and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) with General (r) Pervez Musharraf were wrong as it gave an opportunity to the criminals to get amnesty in their criminal cases. He said another NRO was in progress but they would not allow Mustafa Kamal and others to get amnesty over their criminal activities and safeguard the elements who were involved in violence in the province.

He also opposed announcement of forming new administrative units, from Mustafa Kamal, in Sindh, saying they will not tolerate any bid to divide the province.

Speaking on the occasion, the PML-F chief said the GDA had made a policy to awake the people of Sindh and during the drive, party leaders will visit various areas to disclose the corruption of the provincial rulers. Time has arrived and people have to come out to bring change in the province by ending the rule of corrupt and incompetent people, he added.

Demanding to impose Governor Rule in Sindh, Mr Bhutto said currently the provincial exchequer was going in loss as various billions of rupees packages are not get a leap forward from paperwork.

Criticising the Sindh government, Zulfiqar Mirza claimed that PPP had came into power through pre-poll rigging. He further claimed that Asif Zardari also wanted to apologise with the army but he would also be proved as a RAW agent just like Altaf Hussain after the JITs of the PPP leaders would be presented in the courts.
