The Burewala police registered a case against a man for occupying land owned by the Irrigation Department, although the revenue officials who aided and abetted the accused in occupation of the land are “still unscathed.”

The Burewala Saddr Police registered the case against Muhammad Sajjad alias Boota, son of Nazir Ahmed on the application of the Irrigation Department Pakpattan XEN. The XEN told the police that the accused had occupied land of the irrigation department with the connivance of the revenue officials. The land is situated in Farid Town Burewala and is actually a base line (sewage line) which the revenue officials showed as private land to pave the way for the accused to occupy it.

Earlier, Anti-Corruption Establishment Multan Director Muhammad Ramzan had carried out an inquiry into the scam and had found Burewala Tehsildar Rana Ijaz, Naib Tehsildar Taqi Shah, Kanungo Muhammad Salim, Patwari Abdul Khalid Bhutta and other officials to have connived with Mr Boot. The ACE director had also recommended stern action against the officials but the Vehari district administration allegedly swept the matter under the carpet and gave a clean chit to the revenue officers. Complainant Mian Maqsood, resident of 517/EB Fareed Town Burewala, had submitted to the ACE that the accused revenue officials had given the irrigation department land to Mr Boota allegedly after receiving bribe.

He had alleged that the land was basically a drainage line for the Burewala city.

Currently, the Anti-Corruption Establishment Lahore is also conducting another inquiry into the alleged scam.

Punjab Secretary Irrigation Saif Anjum and Additional Secretary Muhammad Ashraf had taken notice of the occupation of the state land. They had repeatedly written to the Vehari district administration and even the Multan Commissioner but to no avail.

Now the Burewala Saddr Police have lodged FIR no 121/16 under section of 448 against Muhammad Sajjad alias Boota for illegally occupying state land.

When contacted, Burewala Saddr Police SHO Mehr Parvaiz confirmed registration of the FIR against the accused. He said that investigation into the case would be carried out on merit without any pressure or favour.

Vehari ADC Rana Saleem and Burewala AC were not available for comments despite repeated attempts.
